How often do I need to service?

Oil boilers

The recommended service interval for oil boilers is 1 year. It ensures that your appliance is tested for Carbon monoxide (very bad gas!) and efficiency. It is cleaned internally to maintain efficiency, and it is checked for oil leaks and water leaks as well as getting a new nozzle.

A lack of servicing leads to low efficiency and potential carbon monoxide poisoning and dollars to donuts your boiler will choose the coldest friday evening to finally break down.

Air Source heat pumps

Very important to get these serviced. Firstly to maintain your warranty on the heat pump but also the unvented cylinder. Secondly they rely on good flow rates. Blocked filters can cause errors and the whole system will then shut down ( yup you will be popular with no hot water and no heating). Most systems also contain glycol (antifreeze) to ensure that your system does not freeze during winter. This needs checking and maintaining.

AGAs and Rayburn’s

So these are recommended to be every 6 months to keep them in tip-top condition. You can leave them until they start to cool or smell BUT it can be quite unpleasant if they do block and you get a soot-up. horrible to clean and t will cover your kitchen worktops and anything white will never be white again.

They use gravity for oil feeds so regular maintenance is a must.
